BTS at The Open Worlds at Blackpool

Blackpool was an important place to any child growing up in the North of England. The annual trip to see the illuminations the sugary treats, fish and chips and bags of entertainment on every corner made this a magical place.  We all know that it's now not really the seaside resort it once was in its Hey-day; however, what  I didn’t know that in recent years Blackpool has become the absolute Mecca for the world of Ballroom dancing. For a few weeks  in May the promenade swaps its stag parties for its sambas and its 'Kiss-me-quick' hats for its quicksteps!

Every year dancers of every age from 8 to 80 and every corner of the globe pack up their sequins and head to the North West coast. The LP Swing Orchestra are chosen year after year to provide the live music for all the final heats. This involves playing up to 3 hours of very strict tempo dance music every evening! We are required to play The Pasadoble ‘Spanish Gypsy Dance’ around 30 times during the week….! If you ever want to wind the Orchestra up you know what to request! 😂
